Honey and lemon are my favorite juice in the morning in empty stomach. It just gives me a strong jerk to start the day with a full swing. Besides, this juice helps lose extra weight. I lost about 33 lbs in 3 months following some strict rules including this juice also.

I mix one tablespoon of raw honey (Sundarban Honey) with one glass of warm water and one teaspoon of lemon juice and drink it. Now it has been my habit for years. This honey recipe gives me lots of benefits like weight loss, hair fall solution, thick hair, shiny skin with no acne, younger-looking skin than my age (many think that still I am a student but I have been already a mother of two daughters– ha, ha…….), and yet feeling lots of charms to work for all day long.

Like me, you can also get healthy skin, black thick hair, and cheerful mind just using and eating raw honey as your regular habit.

“Honey has natural healing properties. It can also promote collagen-building making it a great anti-ager” says Mona A. Gohara M.D, Associate Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Yale University

In this article, I will show you the benefits of using honey for face, skin, hair, and nails. Already you have known that honey is a natural humectant, antioxidant, antibacterial and antifungal property. By using honey, you can get smooth, glowing, and bright skin.

Why you should use honey for skin?

A 2016 research [S] revealed out that raw honey has wound-healing and antimicrobial properties both for skin and health. That’s why; this natural sticky ingredient helps heal acne, scars, eczema, and other skin conditions making your skin silky, smooth and thick. Honey can also fade earlier age spots, fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, sagginess, creases and other signs of aging because of having antioxidants in it.

The benefits of honey for face and skin

1. Honey hydrates the skin

Who does not know honey is a greater natural humectant. You can use raw honey directly to the skin or make a pack or mask with other home remedies to get smooth, glowing skin. Honey basically steals moisture from the air to the skin. It is great to use for skin in winter to protect dry skin. I personally rub some raw honey on my face and then rinse off the skin. It gives me brighter shiny skin in a few minute.

2. Honey exfoliates skin

Use honey to get rid of dead skin cells and pollutants from the surface of the skin. Artificial or commercial scrubs may often cause irritation, rashes, and redness. Prepare your own scrub with one teaspoon of baking soda with two teaspoons of honey. And exfoliate your face or body with it. Or you can mix brown sugar and honey altogether for a super nourishing face scrub. Take each ingredient as you need.

3. Honey brightens dark spots

Honey is not only an antiseptic and moisturizer, but it also helps get rid of dark spots, acne scars, sun spots, suntan, hyperpigmentation, blemishes, melasma, marks, and other skin discolorations. Mix one teaspoon of olive oil and another teaspoon of honey. And use this mixture on the affected areas and get brighter soft skin.

4. Honey soothes sunburnt skin

Since 2000 BC [S] people (ancient Greeks and Egyptians) have been using raw honey to treat burns, cuts, and wounds on the skin. People in New Zealand often use kanuka honey to prevent infections on the skin. They normally applied honey to the skin topically.

Being natural moisturizer and anti-inflammatory, honey is also used to calm sunburnt skin. It reduces inflammation, rashes, redness, and heals the damaged tissues with its nutrients. Apply one teaspoon of honey with two teaspoons of aloe vera juice on sunburnt skin.

5. Honey removes wrinkles

Honey is a greater natural antioxidant booster used in various skin care products to foster younger-looking skin for years. Use honey with other natural ingredients as face masks, face packs or other DIY recipes. Honey helps erase age spots, fine lines, crow’s feet, saggy skin, and loose skin. Honey helps tighten and firm skin texture and tissue by enhancing collagen level in the skin.

6. Honey cleanses pores

Honey is rich in antibacterial, antioxidant and antiseptic properties that help flush out dirt, dead skin cells, blackheads, makeup, buildups, and other impurities from pores and skin. And then honey tightens pores and softens the skin.

7. Honey helps psoriasis and eczema

Honey can be also used to treat chronic skin conditions like eczema, acne, blemishes, psoriasis, etc. For chronic conditions, honey can be used as a face mask or pack or any type of paste. It will be better if you use unpasteurized honey like Manuka Honey to treat these conditions. And this type of honey is also more effective as its antibacterial properties are still intake and so that helps more quickly to treat redness, inflammation, rashes, and wounds.

8. Honey heals wounds

Dendy Engelman, MD, a board-certified & award-winning New York City dermatologist says, “Natural honey is an antiseptic that helps to prevent infections and wounds.”

Honey basically reduces the healing time of scars, cuts, and burns. The antioxidant-rich honey like Manuka honey is an excellent remedy for chapped, cracked and damaged skin. It keeps the skin nourished by protecting dryness.

9. Honey heals acne

Another research in 2016 [S] showed that 90% medical-grade kanuka honey with 10% glycerin work better than an antibacterial soap to treat facial acne. It basically happens because honey has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce excess sebum production. It opens up clogged pores and takes out all dirt, acne-causing bacteria, dead skin cells and impurities deeper down to pores. This process finally helps treat and prevent acne, pimples, breakouts, and blackheads.

10. Honey calms sensitive skin

Because it is packed with natural anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce inflammation, hives, redness, rashes and soothe the skin faster. Just know before using raw honey if you are allergic to honey. It is better to dilute honey with some distilled or rose water or aloe vera to avoid stinging to the skin.

11. Honey heals chapped lips

I use honey for lips in winter to keep my lips hydrated and supple. The natural minerals, antioxidants, and enzymes of honey help recover damaged lips. I just normally put some raw honey on my lips and then rinse off the lips after five or ten minutes. Then I feel bigger, fuller, and sexier lips than before. 12. Honey removes makeup

If you have natural makeup remover like honey, then why a commercial cleanser. Honey with coconut oil works great to cleanse makeup, even long-lasting and waterproof makeup, foundation, mascara or anything from your face or eye areas. These natural makeup removers also help keep age spots and dark spots at bay.

13. Honey kills fungal infections

Manuka honey is much stronger to treat fungal infections like ringworm. Mix some honey with tea tree or neem oil and apply it to ringworms twice a day until you get healed skin. Or you can directly apply Manuka honey to fungus.

14. Honey moisturizes cuticles

Honey keeps cuticles peel-free and soft with its natural moisture. Rub some raw honey into cuticles and then rinse off the nails after 5-10 minutes. It will soften and strengthen your nails and cuticles too.

15. Honey helps nails

Sometimes, our nails become fragile because of fungus and bacterial infections. Or they lose their softness. Honey is antibacterial and antifungal. So, using honey to nails can give you healthy, strong, and nourished nails.

16. Honey conditions hair

Felix Fischer, a celebrity hair artist says, “honey is a natural hair conditioner as it attracts and retains moisture to the hair making it healthy and soft.”

Moreover, honey makes the strands smooth and nourished with plenty of nutrients.

17. Honey as a Hair mask

Many use raw honey as a hydrating hair mask treatment to prevent drying out of the hair and splitting out. Honey is a natural softener and thus it retains and draws moisture to the locks giving you healthy and smooth bunce.

18. Honey prevents hair fall

As we grow older, it is normal to experience hair loss and gray hair. Honey mask with egg white and olive oil can help you prevent your hair fall and give you back your normal hair growth. Honey also moisturizes dry and damaged hair.

19. Honey gets rid of dandruff

Just raw honey is an effective natural treatment for them who are suffering from severe dandruff, itchy scalp, and white flakes. Mix some raw honey with some water and massage your scalp with this mixture. And leave it for 3 hours. You can do this once a week for dandruff-free hair.

20. Honey cleanses hair and scalp

The scalp and hair get dirt, smoke, dust and various pollutants from environments. Honey can be a great cleanser for your hair. Mix 3 tablespoons of water and 1 tablespoon of raw honey. First wet your head and then rinse your hair off with this cleanser.

If honey has side effects in using for skin?

Raw honey may cause allergies if anyone has allergens of pollen, bee venom, or celery to the skin. So, test some honey on a small area before using on body or face. Avoid leaving honey to the skin for the whole night because it may attract dust and other dirt to the skin that can also cause havoc.

How to test your honey is raw? —because raw honey is more beneficial

Raw honey is more beneficial for face, skin, hair, nails and overall beauty. I always avoid processed honey because it lacks nutrients. And how I check whether my honey is pure:

  • Pour one teaspoon of honey in a glass of water. If the honey is deposited to the bottom of the glass then it is pure. And if the honey dissolves in the water quickly then it is processed honey.
  • Put one drop of honey on your thumb. If it spills sooner then it is not raw honey. And if it is intake then it is pure honey.
  • Processed honey looks transparent and raw honey crystallizes on the storages.
