1. Baking soda

Lips look dark due to dead skin cells on them. Baking soda is a natural exfoliator. It removes those dead skin cells and lips become healthy, soft, and pink. Baking soda also diminishes dark spots, melanin, sun spots, pigments, and other discoloration. Use a balm or olive oil on the lips after using baking soda.

How and when to use: Mix some water with one teaspoon of baking soda to make a paste. Apply it on the lips and rub it in the circular motion with a toothbrush or your fingertips for 45 minutes. Then rinse your lips off, pat dry, and apply a lip balm. Apply this home remedy every alternate day.

2. Almond oil

Almond oil has sclerosant and emollient properties. The emollient in it helps soothe, smooth, and nourish dry lips along with removing dull skin cells. And sclerosant property helps brighten dark spots, patches, melanin, and tan. Almond oil has a nice fatty substance that will keep the lips well moisturized.

How and when to use: Take one or two drops of almond oil and massage your lips with it for one minute. Then let it stay for the whole night. Use almond oil for lips every night before sleeping.

3. Rose petals and milk

Rose petals have anti-aging and hydrating properties. Rose petals tint the lips with reddish color making them younger, softer, and suppler. Milk is also a nourishing and brightening item. Both of them will turn your dark lips smooth, moisturized, and naturally pink.

How and when to use: Mash some fresh rose petals and mix it with milk. Apply this paste on the lips evenly. Wait for 15 minutes to be set the color and hue. Then wash your lips off. You can do it once a day at night.

4. Glycerin

Sunburns cause tan and dryness deposits dead skin cells on the lips making them look black and dull. Using glycerin leave your lips hydrated and bright retaining natural moisture and preventing dryness.

How and when to use: With a cotton swab, apply some glycerin evenly onto the lips. Leave it for the whole night. You can do it every night before going to bed.

5. Apple cider vinegar

ACV has alpha hydroxyl acid that acts slightly like acidic property. It is also a good brightening agent for skin, so try it for your dark pigmented lips to lighten them. Apple cider vinegar will remove dark spots, patches, sun spots, and melanin from the lips if you use this ingredient properly.

How and when to use: Dilute one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with one teaspoon of water. Dab this solution on the lips with a cotton ball and let it dry. After 8 minutes, rinse your lips off with lukewarm water. Do it once a day to get faster pink lips.

6. Coconut oil

Coconut oil rich in fatty acids that keep the lips hydrated, moisturized, and supple. This oil also treats dry lips and prevent them from drying, chapping, and aging. And when your lips remain soft, they will look blush and smooth. Coconut oil hydrates the skin while also getting rid of dark spots, wrinkles, and scars.

How and when to use: Use bare coconut oil onto the lips before bedtime. Or at day time, apply some coconut oil onto the lips several times as you need. Spread oils onto the lips evenly with your fingers.

7. Beetroot juice

These are my favorite home remedies for my lip care. Honey is a natural humectant to keep the skin hydrated and soft. So, the lips will be pink and supple also. Lemon juice contains vitamin C and citrus properties that are an excellent treatment for dark lips to lighten them. Moreover, both of these natural ingredients are antiaging, so keep your skin wrinkle-free.

How and when to use: Mix one teaspoon of honey with another teaspoon of lemon juice. Apply it onto the lips and leave for 40 minutes. Then wipe the lips off with a soft wet cloth or fingertips. You can use this serum once or two times a day to remove pigmentation from your lips.

9. Aloe vera

Aloe vera is one of the greatest natural ingredients for skincare. You can use it from toe to head for healing various conditions. Aloe vera contains aloesin that is rich in polyphenolic property that prevents the production of pigments and melanin on the skin.

How and when to use: Mix two teaspoons of turmeric powder with some milk to make a paste. Apply it on the lips. Now rub your lips gently with your fingertips for 50 minutes. Leave the mixture on the lips for another 10 minutes. And then wash your lips off.

13. Pomegranate juice

Some other tips to lighten your dark pigmented lips

If you don’t change your lifestyle or skincare regimens, then using these natural treatments cannot brighten your lips. Follow these tips also to maintain natural pink soft lips:

  • Form a habit to use a lip balm always because dry-free lips always look pinky and juicy.
  • Use a sunscreen-based lip balm to prevent sunburns, sunspots, and suntan to the lips.
  • Prolonged use of lipstick can darken lips. So, take time to breathe your lips. When you stay home, don’t wear lipstick. Or coming back home, quickly remove lipstick. Use costly or natural lipstick. In winter, moisturizing lipstick is a good choice. Don’t sleep with lipstick also.
  • Smoking darkens lips, even your lips may be black due to smoking. Avoiding smoking will help you carry on healthy looking lips.
  • Drinking excessive tea or coffee may dehydrate and darken your lips. Drinking 1-3 cups of coffee or tea a day is good both for health and skin.

Cautions

Apple cider vinegar, baking soda, and lemon juice can dry or irritate lips. Don’t let them stay longer time. Apply a lip balm after using these ingredients.

Rose petals, pomegranate, and beetroot juice add extra red color and this color stays hours even after washing off. So, if you are a man with dark lips then use rose petals or beetroot juice carefully.

Apply a lip balm after cleansing your lips. This habit protects the lips from dryness.

If you have dark lips genetically or from birth then nothing can actually lighten your lips.
